Several of the festivals include the Merrie Monarch Hula Festival, Big Island Slack Key festival, Aloha week, and the Moloka’i Music festival.

At the Merrie Monarch festival you can listen to island Hawaiian music an entire week long. This festival takes place in Hilo. The festival honors King David Kalakaua, who was known as the Merry Monarch. Many schools play music in this festival from Hawaii, the United States, and people even come to play music all the way from Japan. The festival always begins on Easter Sunday. There are many arts and craft fairs, entertainment, and cultural demonstrations throughout the week.

The Slack Key guitar is a different style of a guitar that originated in Hawaii. Hawaii is also famous for the ukulele guitar and many people love to buy the ukulele as a souvenir so they can enjoy island Hawaiian music when they return home. This festival provides for a true authentic Hawaiian experience. Many people join in the festival and there handfuls of businesses that support the event, which make it such a huge success.

The Moloka’i Music festival is usually held at the Kaunakakai Town Baseball Park and Pauole Community Center in January. In addition to the traditional island Hawaiian music, there are Hawaiian sports competitions, arts and crafts, and plenty of food for everyone.

If you are vacationing in Hawaii, then chances are good when you get off of the plane you will be greeted with island Hawaiian music too. If you experience one of the incredible luaus, then you will have an entire night of Hawaiian music and a roasted pig.
